New Delhi, india: A medical emergency on an IndiGo flight from Bengaluru to Delhi was averted thanks to the swift intervention of Dr. Ritin Mohindra, an Assistant Professor in Acute Care and Emergency Medicine at PGIMER, Chandigarh. The incident occurred approximately 45 minutes after takeoff when a 44-year-old former army man began exhibiting symptoms of hypoglycemia, including weakness on one side and severe discomfort.

The flight, departing at 5:45 AM from Kempegowda International Airport, prompted the cabin crew to urgently seek medical assistance as the passenger’s condition deteriorated. Dr. Mohindra quickly assessed the situation and learned of the passenger's diabetes history. Recognizing the signs of hypoglycemia, he instructed the crew to prepare a sugar-water solution, which stabilized the passenger within just 15 minutes.

Throughout the remainder of the flight, Dr. Mohindra monitored the passenger's condition, providing reassurance and medical advice. By the time the aircraft landed in Delhi, the passenger was stable enough to continue his journey with his wife.

This incident underscores the critical role that trained medical professionals play on flights and highlights the importance of early intervention in emergencies. Dr. Mohindra emphasized that recognizing symptoms early can prevent severe complications associated with hypoglycemia.
