Tel Aviv, Israel: Israel’s military has claimed that its air force destroyed an aircraft associated with Iran’s top leadership during an overnight strike targeting Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport, as tensions between the two regional rivals continue to escalate.

In a statement released Monday, the Israel Defense Forces said the aircraft was dismantled in what it described as a “precise strike.” According to the Israeli military, the aircraft had previously been used by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei as well as other senior government and military officials.

The IDF stated that the aircraft played a role in facilitating military procurement and coordinating activities with Iran’s regional partners through both domestic and international travel. Israeli officials said the destruction of the aircraft was intended to disrupt the leadership’s operational coordination and weaken its military logistics network.

“The dismantling of the aircraft disrupts the Iranian regime leadership’s coordination capabilities with axis countries, its military force build up efforts and its ability to rehabilitate its capabilities,” the IDF said in the statement.

Reports from Iran International indicated that Mehrabad Airport was among several strategic locations targeted during the latest wave of airstrikes on Tehran overnight. According to the reports, a significant portion of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps transport fleet was also destroyed in the operation, along with a ceremonial aircraft used by senior officials of the Islamic Republic.

Mehrabad Airport, located in western Tehran, primarily handles domestic passenger flights but also hosts key military and government aviation facilities. The reported strike underscores the growing aviation dimension of the ongoing Israel Iran confrontation, with strategic air assets and transport infrastructure increasingly becoming targets.

Israeli authorities said operations aimed at degrading Iran’s military capabilities would continue, although Iranian officials had not immediately confirmed details of the reported aircraft destruction.
