Kathmandu, Nepal: Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has pointed out that the weak state of Nepal Airlines is the primary reason behind the underutilization of Pokhara International Airport. Speaking at the "Golden Nepal: Gandaki's Tourism and Economic Flight" event in Pokhara on Friday, he emphasized the need to strengthen Nepal Airlines to ensure the airport's effective operation.

Minister Gurung also highlighted the potential of developing the Korla border point, stating that its proper management could significantly boost tourism in the Gandaki Province. He stressed that enhanced tourism infrastructure would lead to economic and industrial growth in the region.

Outlining a vision for Nepal’s economic hubs, Gurung identified key airports in Bhairahawa, Pokhara, Kathmandu, and Nijgadh as critical to transforming Nepal’s economic landscape. He suggested that these airports could form the backbone of a special economic zone, spurring industrial and tourism growth.

"We aim to develop Korla as a well-managed border point and integrate it with a special economic zone or trade hub. This will not only enhance tourism but also contribute to industrial and economic development," he stated.

Minister Gurung reiterated the importance of making Pokhara International Airport operational and effective, calling it a crucial step toward realizing Gandaki Province's potential as a tourism and industrial powerhouse.
