Kyiv,ukraine: A striking photograph has emerged showing a Ukrainian MiG-29 pilot looking over his shoulder moments after releasing France's sophisticated AASM Hammer smart bomb, marking a significant milestone in Ukraine's adaptation of Western weaponry to Soviet-era aircraft. The image, believed to be recent, reportedly captures a mission that successfully struck a Russian command post in Lyubymivka, Kherson region.
The photograph provides rare visual confirmation of Ukraine's successful integration of the French-made precision weapon onto its existing fighter fleet, a technical achievement that many experts had initially questioned. It can be configured with various warheads, including high-explosive and penetration variants, allowing Ukrainian forces to engage different types of targets, from hardened command posts to vehicle concentrations.
OSINT sources linking the photographed mission to a subsequent drone footage of a successful strike on a Russian command post suggest Ukraine is effectively employing the weapon's precision capabilities. The IR-seeker variant of the Hammer is especially effective against moving targets and can operate in GPS-denied environments – a crucial feature given Russia's electronic warfare capabilities.
